The first picture shows the stock yard in 1980 and shows rows of metal rings, arched girders, which held up the roof, also in the back ground is a crane, enyone remember driveing it?

The next picture shows the new No 2 head gear under construction in 1979 over the old head gear. The small head gear in the centre of the picture was the pumping shaft, this was used to pump water from both shafts and was about 200 yards deep.
The picture below is the bottom of the new staple pit, This would become the area in which all the coal from the districts would be stored untill it was transported to the surface.Above the white girders in the roof there was a massive storage tank for the coal.

The next picture is of an unidentified miner in the chocks on the coal face at yorkshire main, note his pit check hanging on his belt, does anyone know him? - Now identified as Roy Cullen ( Deceased ). Worked at Deal pit in Kent before a stint in the army and then on to Yorkshire main colliery where he worked until it closed, also a member of the mines rescue at some point in his career. Thanks to Jacquie for the information on her family member.

The next two pictures show drilling work at yorkshire main in an unknown roadway, this often took place to install air pipes like the one in the above picture, this would then divert air to another roadway underneath.


This next picture shows a roadway i used to walk many times while checking for gas , it led to the old pit bottom which had closed some 40 years earlier, the pipes in the roof are diverting air to another district.
