This chap his Tony McCloskey back in 1949 he was one of the Bevin Boys
he worked at Askern Colliery and then went on to Cadeby Colliery the
photo you see his him across from the Doncaster Royal Infirmary where
he was stationed there you can see the huts he stopped in 1949 on the
photo.

The photo is of the Drum which the proper name is Denaby Main Hotel.
Nice true storey " Back in 1900's right up until 1960's there where a team of labours called the
!! Flatsheets !! they worked down the pit controlling the mine carts at the coal face, metal sheets was lay'ed down so the mine carts where turn on the metal sheets for the mine carts tracks to distribute the coal to the cages to the pit top, the labours wage was not a very fantastic wage back in them days so they use to wait across the road from the Drum at the end of there shift for the face workers, the face workers would shout them in for a pint of beer and the term they got was called the !! Flatsheets. !!
I use to watch them outside the Drum back in the 60's .
